Geotextiles


Geotextiles are permeable fabrics which, when used in association with Ecogrid and soil, have the ability to separate, filter, reinforce, protect, or drain. Typically made from polypropylene or polyester, geotextile fabrics come in three basic forms: woven (looks like mail bag sacking), needle punched (looks like felt), or heat bonded (looks like ironed felt).
Geomembranes
Geomembranes are made of various materials. Some common geomembrane materials are EPDM rubber (ethylene propylene diene Monomer), Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Polyurea and Polypropylene (PP). Another type of geomembrane is bituminous geomembrane (such as Teranap), which is made up of a non-woven polyester geotextile and glass fleece, impregnated in SBS modified bitumen.

Our G90 woven ground stabilisation membrane

 

Our G90 is a black woven polypropylene fabric made from slit film tapes which are then woven on Sulzer Looms. The warp tapes (machine direction) are beamed into the loom and the weft tapes (cross-machine direction) are threaded over and under alternate elements. The woven product that emerges offers very high mechanical strengths per unit weight. This range of standard grade woven geotextiles is used primarily as a separator to prevent good quality granular fill intermixing with the underlying lower quality soil. The material offers a good mechanical resistance to damage caused during installation and/or subsequent trafficking. The softer the underlying soil, the higher tensile strength of geotextile must be used. The geotextile then performs both as a separator and as reinforcement, ranging from tensile strengths of 16KN to in excess of 200KN. Fastrack G90 Fastrack is our woven alternative to Terram 1000 (Multitrack). G90 is a cheaper and often more viable alternative, which is both stronger & lighter. It has a permeability rate of 16.9 l/m 2 /sec which is suitable for most applications, however woven products inherently have a larger pore size making them less suited to erosion control. Non-woven geotextiles are manufactured by extruding continuous polypropylene filaments into short staple fibers, for processing on one of several non-woven lines. Each line involves the continuous laying of fibers onto a moving conveyor belt to form an unbound web. This web passes along the conveyor to be either mechanically bonded (needle-punched) or thermally (heat) bonded. After bonding, the finished product is wound into a roll.Thermally Bonded NW range produced using a combination of mechanical and thermal bonding, our NW product range has smaller opening sizes and a higher water-flow than our standard woven range and is often used in filtration applications. Typical examples include use as a filter wrap to a trench drain or as a filter between a fill material and a granular drainage blanket.
